The quiet after the storm…

If you’ve ever done freelance work or been assigned to a huge project with a nearing delivery date, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. ‘The quiet after the storm’. I use to experience it most when I was working in theatre at varsity and on corporate theatre pieces that ran for a month at a time.
There’s a schedule that needs to be kept to and the pressure always heightens towards the end. The novelty is my favourite because that’s where the first burst of energy comes from. After that it’s the drive for perfection ( if such a thing even exists) that keeps you going. Without fail there’s a lull. A dull monotonous lull that always seems to come right in the middle of the run. Then you have to remind yourself that this is what you love doing and you should be greatfull to have another oppurtunity to be living out your dream. This is the frame of mind that gets you closer and closer to that ever eluding perfection.
But here, it isn’t the drive and ambition that I’m trying to focus on. It’s being busy busy busy, completing the project, and saying there it’s done. What now!? ‘The quiet after the storm’.
Some may call it a holiday… others maybe, breathing space. If you’ve gone through this before, or maybe even right now…here’s a word I’d advice… Don’t twiddle your thumbs. Enjoy the breathing space because soon the quiet will be over and you’ll be back in a torrent of work that will require you wind breaker and wellies.
